Introducing the latest in the "Shinkansen" bullet train set collection, the sleek E5 series, exclusive to Makeronline. The E5 series trains entered service in Japan in 2011 and is known for its gracefully long nose section. Check out the 700 series trains, the first in the "Shinkansen" collection, exclusive to Makerworld in my user profile of the same name.
While most parts are printed, there are a few non-printed items in the list below. The build instructions are included in the pictures.
A few things of note:
- This set has smaller-than-normal wheels, as the larger wheels typical of Brio-type trains would look too big.
- Instead of attaching each wheel with a screw, the wheels are press-fit onto a steel dowel pin for smooth operation, making the train capable of high speed operation just like a real bullet train. Glue is optional and recommended if you are printing these for kids under 3 years old.
- Ensure the dowel pin axles are pushed fully into the wheels. I've included an “axle helper” on plate 2 to help with this.
- Pay attention to the polarity of the magnets when they are being screwed in!
Non-printed hardware consists of the following (for each 3-car set):
- 2x25 dowel pin: QTY 12
- M2.5x14 self-tapping screw: QTY 6
- M4x10 button head screw (machine or self-tapping): QTY 4
- 10x4x3 ring magnet: QTY 4
- 10 mm outer diameter, 4 mm hole diameter, 3 mm thickness
All of the above hardware parts are available in Makerworld's Maker's Supply.
Enjoy! Let me know if you encounter any issues. I do not yet have an Anycubic printer, so I did my best with the print profile. The profile is optimized for quality and durability, not speed, so be patient!
