Elio’s Nocturne
Elio was the last keeper of a cathedral swallowed by an enchanted forest. As the roots broke through its floors and the bells fell silent, he gathered what remained of its ancient protection into a single candleholder.
He shaped its base after the cathedral’s arches and crowned it with a crescent moon. Around the slender column he wound a living thorn, binding three spells to its three flames.
The first guarded the doors. The second kept the forest asleep. The third, cradled beneath the crescent, preserved the moonlight that the branches had hidden from the world.
Each evening, Elio lit them in that order.
Centuries later, the cathedral has vanished, but his creation remains. When its three lights glow together, their shadows fall like tall windows across the walls—and beyond those shadowed arches, something stirs among the trees.
The thorn tightens around the moon.
For one more night, the old magic holds.
