Description

Hello Everyone!

This is my very first attempt at creating something to print in 3D, also my first attempt with TPU. As an Italian railway worker, we use a special kind of key on a daily basis. Over the years, I always bought key holders, but they were either “non-tailored” for that specific type of key or way too expensive.

I had a 3D printer a few years ago and decided to get back in the game recently. As soon as I got my printer, I wanted to try creating something useful right away. I chose OpenSCAD since I needed a functional, geometric tool, and I ended up designing my Railway Key Holder to be used on a belt. Its design is very simple and not very cool, but I needed something practical and I believe this does the job!

I printed and tested it in both TPU and PETG. However, I strongly suggest using TPU: since the holder sits on your belt, rubs against your clothes, and can feel a bit bulky when seated, TPU offers much better flexibility and comfort for daily work.

I printed this on my Anycubic Kobra S1 so I'm uploading the print profiles for both TPU and PETG. Please double check them since it's my first project, I may have done mistakes.

Also, I’m including the source .scad file so the project is fully parametric — feel free to tweak the dimensions in OpenSCAD if your key or belt size is different, or if you need it for other tools.

If you have any suggestions, feedback, or ideas to improve it, please let me know in the comments. Hope you find it useful!

Note: Based on my initial test prints shown in the photos, I slightly widened the internal holster dimensions in the uploaded files (.STL, .3MF, and .SCAD) to 40mm to ensure a smoother fit and an easier draw of the key.

Ciao a tutti!
