A strong and flexible 3D-printable replacement handle for lifting a double bed slatted frame.
The original handles on my bed frame were made from a soft rubber-like material and eventually broke after several years of everyday use.
I designed this replacement handle using TPU for ACE / TPU 68D, providing a combination of flexibility, toughness and mechanical strength suitable for repeated lifting of the bed frame.
The geometry was designed around a comfortable grip and secure two-screw mounting. The reinforced construction is intended to withstand repeated loading while retaining a certain degree of flexibility.
The model is designed to be printed flat on the build plate, without supports.
Recommended print settings
Material: TPU for ACE / TPU 68D
Layer height: 0.20 mm
Walls: 15–20 minimum
Infill: 30–50%
Top layers: 8–10
Bottom layers: 8–10
Supports: Not required
Print orientation: Flat on the build plate
Why so many walls?
The handle is a functional load-bearing part, not a decorative object. The high wall count significantly increases the amount of solid material around the load-bearing geometry and mounting area.
For this reason, I recommend 15–20 walls minimum, especially if the handle will be used frequently or with a heavier mattress.
The infill can be adjusted between 30–50% depending on the required strength and printing time.
Highlights
- Designed for TPU for ACE / TPU 68D
- Strong yet flexible
- Reinforced construction
- Comfortable ergonomic grip
- Two-point screw mounting
- No supports required
- Prints flat on the build plate
- Designed for repeated everyday use
- Ideal replacement for broken or deteriorated original handles
Important
Print the handle flat on the build plate as shown in the model orientation.
For maximum durability, use the recommended 15–20+ walls rather than simply increasing infill. This keeps the critical structural areas much more robust while preserving the benefits of TPU.
