Description

Anti-Roll Physics: The Sphericon

"Proof that you don't need to be round to roll smoothly, just like you don't need logic to pass Mondays."

"Rolls in a straight line while wobbling side to side: Basically a drunk sphere."

"Has one continuous surface and two edges, designed specifically to confuse your geometric intuition."

How It Works & The Physics Behind It

The Sphericon is a unique solid geometric shape formed by joining two halves of a bicone that have been rotated relative to each other by 90 degrees.

  • Single Continuous Surface: Despite its distinct ridges and angles, the Sphericon possesses a single, continuous face and two edges. As it rolls, its entire surface area comes into contact with the ground.
  • Wobbling Center of Mass: When rolled across a flat surface, its center of mass moves forward in a perfectly straight line, even though the body sways dynamically from side to side in a controlled meander.
  • Developable Surface Mechanics: Demonstrates the physics of developable surfaces—3D shapes that can be unfolded into a flat, 2D plane without stretching or tearing.
